October 3rd, 2012 ISLAMABAD. US Ambassador to Pakistan, Richard Olson, due to take charge in a few weeks, says that the US will need the cooperation of the Pakistan government in dealing with the Haqqani network which has taken refuge in areas of North Waziristan.
While taking oath before the before the Senate’s Foreign Relations Committee, he said that Pakistan and the US had mutual interests in the region and in the war on terror. He honored the sacrifices and the costs that the people of Pakistan have suffered for the war on terror and said that further engagement with the government was required to attain peace in the region.
He emphasized that the Haqqani network had found a safe haven in North Waziristan and it was essential to reach out to the area to quell their activities and forces. He added that it was on their priority list to convince the Pakistan Government of this fact and to begin joint efforts for this purpose.
