June 13, 2012

An aircraft of Pakistan Air Force (PAF) crashed while on a routine training mission in the mountains of Khuzdar district, on Tuesday. According to sources, a PAF Mirage plane took off from Masroor Base in Karachi and crashed after developing technical fault in Sarona and Chapar areas of Khuzdar district. However, both pilots on board - one instructor and a trainee - remained safe as they ejected from the plane before it crashed.

When contacted, Wadh Assistant Commissioner Naseer Ahmed Mirwani, confirmed the incident and said that local law enforcement agencies had reached the site. "Two pilots who had ejected from the plane have been recovered safely," he added. An official of Lasbela district said that a huge fire erupted when the plane hit the ground, away from the human population. Local law enforcement agencies and firefighters rushed to the site soon after the incident. It was the second Mirage aircraft crash in the region in a month. A Mirage-V crashed on May 11 while its pilot ejected safely as well.
