Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani has said Pakistan wholeheartedly supports an Afghan owned peace process. He was addressing a joint meeting of the Political and Security Council and the European Union Military Committee at Brussels on Monday.
Ambassadors and delegations comprising defence and military officials of 27 EU nations participated in the interactive event. The discussion encompassed situation in Afghanistan and its effects on regional peace and security
Speaking at the forum, Gen Kayani highlighted Pakistan’s perspective on these issues with particular reference to the nation’s contribution and sacrifices in the war on terror. Commenting on reconciliation in Afghanistan, he reiterated Pakistan’s wholehearted support to an Afghan owned and led process. Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar met NATO Secretary General Andres Fogh Rasmussen.
Khar and Rasmussen discussed issues pertaining to bilateral relations during their meeting. Foreign Minister Khar and Army Chief General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani are in Brussels on a two-day visit. The Foreign Minister is expected to address NATO’s Atlantic Council and the Foreign Relations Committee of the European Parliament. Gen Kayani is expected to meet the Political Security Committee of the EU besides holding other vital meetings.
