Islamabad: Chairman Senate Defence Committee, Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed has said that Parliament of Pakistan greatly values its best of relationship with the EU and emphasized to boost institutional collaboration between the EU and the Parliament of Pakistan. 

He was addressing to the certificate distribution ceremony in honor of the Young Parliamentary Associates, selected and trained as part of the European Union funded Improving Parliamentary Performance in Pakistan (IP3) project. EU Ambassador H.E. Lars-Gunnar Wigemark, IP3 team leader Ms. Niamh O’Connor and representatives of EU member states were also present on the occasion.

"Today’s ceremony marks the completion of the orientation training programme. During your training, you were exposed to the History of the Constitution of Pakistan, Composition of Parliament and its functions, Parliamentary rules and procedures, Parliamentary research, working of the Committees, Legislative process, International human rights and Budget. Now the time has come when you will see the practical demonstration of whatever you have learn while sitting in the training room." The Senator said while addressing to the group of Young Parliamentary Associates. 

Senator Mushahid, while terming the IP3 project a landmark initiative, said that in the recent years the Senate of Pakistan has played a pivotal role in strengthening democracy. He was of the view that the EU’s continued support to strengthening and enhancing Pakistan’s democratic institutions and Parliamentary democracy is commendable. The Senator hoped the Young Parliamentary Associates will bring new ideas and approaches to serve the Parliament more efficiently.

The ceremony was also addressed by the acting Chairman Senate Sabir Ali Baloch and Ms. Marriyum Aurangzeb, MNA.
